Kidnappings are hard on everyone.
Well… nearly everyone.
In modern-day North Carolina, a man builds a castle on a mountain—a monument to love, ancestry, and impossible dreams. But the deeper its foundations reach, the more something ancient begins to stir.
A predator walks among the living, heir to a lineage that has hunted for generations, hidden in plain sight beneath wealth, civility, and power.
And inside the castle, a young woman begins to see what others cannot:
that time does not move in a straight line…
and that some stories never ended.
As past and present begin to converge, beauty becomes a shield, a lure, and a battlefield.
Because on this mountain, nothing is truly finished.
Not the castle.
Not the bloodlines.
And not the hunt.

Part thriller and part ancestral dreamscape, Castle Mont Rouge blends Southern Gothic, romance, humor, mythic horror, and family warmth into a story where time folds inward and the past continues hunting the living.

Meet the Characters

Robert Mihaly

An artist, builder, and dreamer obsessed with beauty, ancestry, and impossible acts of devotion. High atop a North Carolina mountain, he spends decades constructing Castle Mont Rouge: part fortress, part love letter, part generational prayer against the darkness he senses gathering around his family.

Connie Grubbs

Sharp-tongued, theatrically selfish, and catastrophically dishonest, Connie Grubbs drifts through life like a gothic con artist trapped inside her own melodrama. Equal parts grifter, diva, opportunist, and emotional hurricane, she leaves behind a trail of exaggerated claims, dubious schemes, wounded admirers, and barely believable self-reinventions. Simultaneously hilarious, infuriating, and strangely charismatic, Connie possesses an almost supernatural ability to manipulate sympathy while behaving outrageously. Beneath the sarcasm, vanity, and operatic chaos lies a woman desperately improvising her way through life, terrified that without performance, deception, and spectacle, there may not be much left underneath at all.

Chloë Mihaly

Sharp-witted, observant, and far more perceptive than most adults around her realize, Chloë slowly becomes aware that something impossible is unfolding around Castle Mont Rouge. As old patterns begin resurfacing through the generations, she finds herself caught between inheritance, destiny, and the terrifying realization that history may not move in a straight line.

The Dark Huntsman

A predator hidden behind civility, inheritance, and respectability. Patient, manipulative, and descended from generations of concealed violence, he moves through modern society carrying ancient hungers beneath an ordinary face. To some, he appears cultured. To others, successful. But beneath the surface lives something far older and far more dangerous.

Lysander (“Lyly”) Mihaly

Younger than his sister but often strangely insightful, Lysander balances humor, sensitivity, and quiet emotional intelligence. Beneath his playful exterior lies a growing awareness that the castle, the family stories, and the strange atmosphere surrounding their lives may conceal something much older than either sibling fully understands.

Carroll

Steady, hyper-competent, and quietly formidable, Carroll carries herself with the composure of someone raised among expectations, tradition, and old social structures. An accomplished equestrian with a deeply disciplined temperament, she becomes one of the few adults capable of recognizing the scale of the danger emerging around the family. Calm under pressure, perceptive, and fiercely loyal, Carroll serves as both protector and strategist as the boundaries between past and present begin collapsing around Castle Mont Rouge.

Gregorius Michaliv

Philosopher, craftsman, and old-world moralist, Gregorius carries himself with the grave formality of another age, as though some part of him never entirely departed the late nineteenth century that shaped him. Equal parts mentor, theologian, storyteller, and stubborn eccentric, he fills the castle with reflections on ancestry, duty, beauty, wolves, armor, and the dangerous responsibilities inherited by every generation. To some he appears wise. To others, faintly unhinged. But beneath his rambling metaphysics lies a man struggling to prepare the family for forces he suspects are older and darker than modern people are willing to believe.

Claribel

Sensitive, intelligent, and quietly emotionally exposed, Claribel possesses the kind of openness that makes both deep connection and deep harm possible. Increasingly vulnerable to the strange emotional currents surrounding Castle Mont Rouge, she becomes entangled in mysteries and attachments she does not yet fully comprehend. Her longing to be seen, loved, and understood begins drawing hidden tensions, dangerous obsessions, and buried darkness steadily closer to the surface.

Sarah Tall Oak

Thoughtful, intuitive, and shaped by an older mountain world where ancestry, land, and memory still carried spiritual weight, Sarah Tall Oak becomes increasingly aware that strange patterns seem to echo across generations surrounding Red Mountain. Though she does not fully perceive the deeper mechanisms at work, she senses unsettling connections between past, present, and future that others dismiss as coincidence. Her instincts repeatedly place her near truths she cannot entirely explain, as though the mountain itself remembers more than the living do.

Anton Pichu

An ancestor whose choices echo forward through centuries, Anton Pichu emerges from the shadowed villages and wandering margins of the Carpathian Mountains carrying an air of mystery that later generations never fully unravel. Rumors follow him through the bloodline: outsider origins, old-country superstitions, vanished identities, and whispers that he may have descended from gypsy wanderers who moved between villages without ever fully belonging to them. His life becomes one of the earliest threads in a generational tapestry of longing, survival, violence, devotion, and recurring fate.

Cristina Esposito

Owner of the beloved Capriccio café, Cristina carries warmth, sophistication, and old-world sensibility into the lives orbiting Castle Mont Rouge. Beneath her gracious presence lies a sharp observer of human nature and a quiet believer in beauty’s power to preserve what darkness would otherwise consume.

Jonah, Logan, and Lincoln

“The Fab Three”

Musicians, engineers, pranksters, and fiercely loyal friends, the self-proclaimed Carpool Cavaliers bring warmth, humor, and chaotic energy into the shadowed world surrounding Castle Mont Rouge. But even their friendship cannot fully shield them from the darker forces slowly converging around the mountain.

Castle Mont Rouge

More than a setting, the castle itself becomes a living presence within the story: a mountain labyrinth of stained glass, towers, ancestral memory, longing, beauty, and unfinished history. Every element of the structure bears the iconography of the family’s Carpathian ancestors—wolves, saints, swords, forests, crowns, dragons, horsemen, and fragments of old-world mythology woven into stone, timber, and glass. Its forty-two stained glass windows each tell a different story drawn from generations of devotion, tragedy, folklore, migration, violence, romance, and survival. Some believe the castle was built to protect the family. Others suspect it was built because the family needed protection from something already inside their bloodline.
